Personal Profile:
Name: Magan Mae Cruz-Wingo
College: Solano Community College-Automotive Technology
Hometown: Vallejo, CA
Major: Automotive Technology
Aspirational Car: My all-time favorite is a 1987 white Monte Carlo Super Sport
with crushed blue velvet interior.
10-Year Prediction in auto/motorsports: Hopefully in 10 years I will
own an automotive shop.I want it to be a place where women
of all ages can come and either work or get repairs done
on their cars and feel safe and not taken advantage of.
What You May Not Know About Me: my two favorite motorsports are
NASCAR and NHRA
How did you get so interested in the auto/motorsports industry? My interest and inspiration all come from my dad, my poppa and my stepdad. They have all taught and continue to teach me so many things I did not know. Recently, my cousin and I did some transmission and engine work, and it was actually fun to watch him and learn new techniques of how to do things.
What automotive aspect interests you the most? I think the automotive aspect that interests me the most is tearing apart the engines to see what major problems they have and trying to find the cause. The diagnosis and also body work is another big interest of mine.
How do you approach the challenges of being a minority engineering student in what has been traditionally a non-minority career path? I just continue to roll with times, especially being a woman in the industry which has been male dominated for so long. Women are just now starting to be noticed for their contributions to a lot of industries, and I think it’s absolutely amazing that they are finally getting recognition.
What would you like your first job/career opportunity to be? I would like it to either be and I have given this lots of thought, a technician for Toyota Racing Development in NASCAR or Body Technician for TRD NASCAR.
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Hopefully in 10 years I will have my own shop or be working with Toyota Racing Development.

The foundation’s focus is on scholarships and career summits in an effort to help create tomorrow’s vibrant workforce. Its minority female scholarship program in motorsports and automotive engineering provides diversity to a transportation industry that is ever-changing via innovation and technology with individuals who traditionally did not consider these career paths simply because they saw few who looked like them in the industry.
