STEAM Sports Group Recognized by Firestone for its STEAM Program with Honda’s Verizon IndyCar Series

ATLANTA (May 30) - STEAM Sports Group founder Bob Dickinson and general manager John Clamme accepted a Legends of the Indianapolis 500 Award of $10,000 from Firestone during the public drivers’ meeting last weekend leading up to the 101st Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. The award recognized STEAM Sports Group for its continued work developing and administering education programs centered on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math (STEAM) around motorsports. Its Honda STEAM Connections Tour, in its second year, pairs university and college schools of engineering with area middle schools and high schools -- in conjunction with Honda's Verizon IndyCar Series teams – to present a full day of on-campus STEAM-related activities prior to Verizon IndyCar Series race weekends. “We are extremely grateful to Firestone and the Verizon IndyCar Series for this recognition,” said Dickinson. “The ability to showcase career opportunities in motorsports and all sports, actually, through STEAM education and activities is at the core of our message, and we appreciate that it is beginning to resonate.” Dickinson indicated that a portion of the grant would be allocated for STEAM sports scholarships through its ancillary entity, the STEAM Sports Foundation. To date, STEAM Sports Group has coordinated Honda STEAM Connections Tours with Purdue, Ohio State, University of Alabama, and San Jose State. Its next event will be at the University of California-Berkeley September 13 prior to the Verizon IndyCar Series finale. STEAM Sports Group is a marketing and special events firm that focuses on how to integrate corporate STEM and STEAM initiatives (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) with sporting events, leagues, conferences, governing associations and athletes. STEAM Sports Foundation is SSG’s ancillary 501c3 that seeks funding primarily for educational programs, curriculums and scholarships in an effort to unite business, education and sports. Recognizing workforce and economic development as an integral part of corporate growth, SSG and SSF work with companies, educators and sports groups to develop initiatives around science, technology, engineering, arts and math that prepare and excite America’s youth in an effort to create tomorrow’s vibrant workforce.
