Sports Tech Story of the Month: EA Sports FIFA 17 eSports Growth

Updated: Apr 24, 2020

ATLANTA (Feb. 28, 2017) – As the proliferation of eSports continues to grow worldwide, STEAM Sports Group has recognized EA Sports FIFA competition growth as its “Sports Story of the Month.”

EA SPORTS FIFA 17 recently announced that it will broadcast coverage via BT Sport of the FIFA Ultimate Team Championships in both Ireland and the United Kingdom. The arrangement allows EA’s Competitive Game Division to televise to FIFA’s two biggest markets. The virtual football championship, which can be played on Xbox One and Play Station 4, is also telecast via ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3 and is live streamed on Twitch, YouTube and EA.com. “There is no other sport more popular that soccer worldwide,” said STEAM Sports Group Founder and President Bob Dickinson. “Combine the popularity of the sport with the phenomenal growth of eSports and EA’s continuing genius to deliver cutting-edge games and competitions is why we believe this story is well worth the attention it is receiving.” There are four remaining EA FIFA Majors – Season Two North American Regional Final in Vancouver (April 8), Season Two Asia-Pacific Regional Final in Singapore (April 22), Season Two European Regional Final in Madrid (May 6) and the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Championship Final in Berlin (May 20-21).
