“A Community Thrives” when a diverse, talented, well-trained and well-educated workforce is available. It is what drives human success stories and serves a significant benefit to the U.S. economy.
With an emphasis on the “STEAM Behind Motorsports”, the foundation will attempt to raise $50,000 for scholarships and grants targeting the under-developed female, minority and economically-challenged workforce in the automotive/motorsports industry.
“The automotive industry is vital to the U.S. economy,” says Bob Dickinson, Executive Director of STEAM Sports Foundation. “Talent and workforce development are at a premium, particularly among these under-served and under-developed demographics. Whenever we ask a company about its biggest need, invariably the answer comes back ‘talent’. Everyone is trying to be innovative, and motorsports drives innovation in the automotive world.”
With a continued emphasis on workforce opportunities, the foundation will use the funds raised to provide scholarships and/or grants for young people who either wish to pursue an automotive career or have established a path within automotive via a start-up company.
“The U.S. Department of Labor says that by 2024, eighty percent (80%) of jobs will require some sort of STEM/STEAM background,” says Dickinson. “Nowhere is that more apparent than in the automotive industry where much innovation and development is driven by manufacturers’ motorsports programs.”
The campaign will run until April 12 with various levels of bonuses available from USA Today to non-profits who raise the most funds each week and overall.
